Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a wheel and a rim?
The terms are used interchangeably day-to-day, but technically the "rim" is just the outer edge of the wheel that holds the tire bead. The "wheel" is the complete assembly — rim, spokes, and center. When customers say "new rims" they almost always mean a full wheel set, and that's how we quote it.
Will these wheels fit my vehicle?
We need four numbers: bolt pattern (e.g. 5×114.3), rim diameter (17–22"), rim width (7–10"), and offset (typically +20 to +45). For trucks and SUVs we also check load rating. Send us your year/make/model or vehicle VIN and we'll confirm which wheels in our inventory fit before you pay anything.
Can I keep my existing tires when I buy new wheels?
If the new wheels are the same diameter and width as your old ones, yes — we'll dismount your tires, mount them on the new wheels, balance the assembly, and reinstall. If you're going up a size (a "plus 1" or "plus 2" rim upgrade), you'll need new tires too. Most customers swap both at once.
Do you stock winter wheels for separate seasonal sets?
Yes. Steel wheels and basic alloy wheels in winter-tire sizes are a smart move — running a dedicated winter wheel set saves your nicer summer rims from road salt and curb damage, plus it makes the November and April swap take 30 minutes instead of 60. Ask about our steel-wheel options when ordering winter tires.
How long does wheel installation take?
A standard 4-wheel install with tire mounting and balancing takes about 60 minutes. If you bring an assembled set (tires already on the rims), it's a 30-minute swap. Truck and dually fitments add 20–30 minutes. Book online to lock in your slot — wheel installs fill up fast in spring and fall.

Picking the right wheels for Calgary roads

Buying wheels isn't just about how they look. Fitment determines whether the wheel sits flush on the hub, clears the brake calipers, and matches the load demands of your vehicle. Get any one of bolt pattern, diameter, width, or offset wrong and you're either re-ordering or compromising on safety.

Here's what we check before you commit:

  • Bolt pattern + diameter + width + offset Four numbers determine fit. We confirm all four before you order — the worst outcome in this category is a wheel that doesn't sit flush on the hub.
  • Load rating matters for trucks and SUVs A passenger-car alloy on a half-ton truck is a recipe for cracked spokes. We size wheels to your vehicle's GVWR, not just the bolt pattern.
  • Plus-size goes hand-in-hand with new tires Upsizing from a 17" to a 19" rim means lower-profile tires too. We quote the full wheel-plus-tire package so the speedometer stays accurate and the ride doesn't get harsh.
  • Steel winter wheels save your alloys Calgary salt is brutal on aluminum finishes. A dedicated steel-wheel set for winters is cheaper than refinishing a curbed alloy in spring.

If you're not sure what fits, send us your vehicle's year/make/model and we'll cross-reference against our inventory. No charge to confirm fitment.

Installation, fitment, and what's included

When you buy a set of wheels at Prince Tires:

  • Mount + balance on every wheel. Computer balancing to the gram. No wheel weights showing on the outside of premium alloys.
  • TPMS sensors transferred or replaced. We swap your existing TPMS sensors onto the new wheels, or supply OEM-equivalent replacements when needed.
  • Torque-checked to manufacturer spec. Plus a free re-torque inspection at 50–100 km after install — freeze/thaw can loosen lugs on aluminum.
  • Centric ring fitment. Aftermarket wheels usually need hub-centric rings to sit flush. We supply them at no extra charge when needed.
  • Price Match Guarantee. Match any written quote from another Calgary wheel shop on the same brand, model, and size.

Not sure what fits your vehicle yet? Send us your year/make/model and we'll cross-reference against our wheel inventory before you commit. Call (403) 452-4283 or book online.
