Light truck tires in Calgary: A/T, M/T and H/T

This collection is every light truck and LT-rated tire we stock in Calgary — BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 and KO2, Toyo Open Country A/T III, Yokohama Geolandar, Bridgestone Dueler A/T ASCENT and more, across highway (H/T), all-terrain (A/T) and mud-terrain (M/T) tread types. Filter by your size above; what shows is in stock.

LT-rated vs P-metric: which does your truck need?

An LT prefix (LT275/70R18, for example) means the tire is built with reinforced sidewalls and a stronger casing to carry more weight at higher inflation pressures. Three-quarter-ton and one-ton trucks — F-250s, 2500-series and up — require LT tires. Most half-tons (F-150, Silverado 1500, Ram 1500, Tundra) come factory-fitted with P-metric or Euro-metric tires, which ride softer and cost less.

The rule: match or exceed the load rating on your door-jamb placard. If you tow a holiday trailer down the QE2 or haul a slip tank in the box, stepping a half-ton up to LT tires adds sidewall stability and puncture resistance. If your truck is a daily commuter, the P-metric it came with is usually the better ride and the better price.

A/T vs M/T vs H/T for Alberta driving

  • H/T (highway terrain): pavement-first. Quietest, longest tread life, best fuel economy, solid in rain. The right choice if the truck lives on Deerfoot and Stoney and tows on paved highways.
  • A/T (all-terrain): the Alberta default. Handles the gravel roads east of the city around Strathmore and Langdon, jobsite mud, and mountain highway runs to Banff and Golden. Many, like the KO3 and Open Country A/T III, carry the 3PMSF snowflake for winter mountain travel. The trade-off versus an H/T is a little more noise and a little less tread life.
  • M/T (mud terrain): deep mud, rock and serious off-road use. Big open lugs mean real noise on the highway and faster pavement wear, so buy an M/T because you need it off-road, not for the look. An aggressive A/T covers most Alberta use with less compromise.

Load range E vs C

Load range is the modern version of ply rating. C (6-ply rated) is lighter, rides better and covers most half-ton duty. E (10-ply rated, up to 80 PSI) is for three-quarter-ton and up, heavy towing and truck campers. Don't buy E "just to be safe" on a truck that never tows heavy — you'll pay for it in ride harshness, weight and fuel every day. Check your placard, and when in doubt, call and we'll look up your fitment.

Truck tire brands we stock

The core of the collection: BFGoodrich (All-Terrain T/A KO3 and KO2), Toyo (Open Country A/T III), Yokohama (Geolandar A/T) and Bridgestone (Dueler A/T ASCENT), plus Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S and Michelin LTX fitments in common sizes. Our price match guarantee applies to every tire here: find it advertised lower at another Calgary shop and we match it.

Want the full breakdown?

Our light truck tire guide goes deeper — tread life comparisons, winter ratings, and which A/T actually works at -25°C. Or skip the reading: call (403) 452-4283 with your truck's year, make and model and we'll shortlist two or three options with installed prices. Installation is $25 per tire at our SW Calgary shop, and we're 4.9★ rated by hundreds of Calgary drivers.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about buying tires

What's the difference between LT and P-metric tires?

LT-rated tires are built with reinforced sidewalls and stronger casings to carry heavier loads at higher inflation pressures; they're required on three-quarter-ton and one-ton trucks. P-metric tires are lighter, quieter and ride softer, which is why most half-tons ship with them from the factory. Match or exceed whatever your door-jamb placard specifies.

Do I need load range E or load range C tires?

Check the door-jamb placard: 2500- and 3500-series trucks and anything towing heavy typically call for load range E (10-ply rated). Load range C (6-ply rated) rides noticeably better and costs less, and it covers most half-ton daily driving. Running E on a truck that never tows heavy just buys you a harsher ride and worse fuel economy.

What's the best all-terrain tire for Alberta?

The two we install most in Calgary are the BFGoodrich KO3 and the Toyo Open Country A/T III — both 3PMSF-rated and both proven on gravel and in mountain snow. The Yokohama Geolandar A/T and Bridgestone Dueler A/T ASCENT run close behind, with the ASCENT leaning quieter and more highway-mannered. The right pick depends on your split of pavement, gravel and winter driving, so call with your size and we'll talk it through.

Are A/T tires good enough for Calgary winters?

A 3PMSF-rated A/T like the KO3 or Open Country A/T III satisfies BC's winter tire rule for mountain trips and handles most Calgary winter driving well. On hard-packed ice at -25°C, a dedicated winter tire still stops shorter. If your truck sees deep-winter commuting every day, a winter set is worth it; if it's a mixed-use work truck, a snowflake-rated A/T is a reasonable single-tire answer.

How much do light truck tires cost in Calgary?

Most popular A/T fitments land between about $250 and $450 per tire, with H/T tires generally cheaper and M/Ts and large LT sizes higher. Installation is $25 per tire on top, so a set of four A/Ts typically runs $1,100 to $1,900 installed depending on size and brand, before GST. We price match any advertised Calgary price on the identical tire and size.

Can I put LT tires on my half-ton truck?

Yes, as long as the size fits and the load rating meets or beats your placard. Half-ton owners who tow or run gravel daily often step up to an LT for the tougher sidewall. Expect a firmer ride and slightly higher fuel use, and note that LT tires usually need higher inflation pressures than the P-metric spec on your door jamb — we set the correct pressures at install.
