A winter tire change (seasonal changeover) is the straightforward swap: your winter and summer tires each live on their own set of rims, and we move the correct set onto your vehicle and torque every wheel to spec. How much does a winter tire change cost in Calgary?
A changeover at Prince Tires is a flat rate by vehicle: $60 for most cars, SUVs, vans and EVs, $80 for trucks and larger trucks, $90 for dual-rear-wheel (dually) trucks, and $120 for trailers. Do you do the swap back in spring too?
Yes — same flat rate, same 30 minutes, and the calendar is far easier than it is in October. The swap back is usually April, once overnight lows stop dropping below 7°C. What's the difference between a changeover and tire installation?
A changeover assumes your winter and summer tires each sit on their own set of rims — we just swap which set is on the vehicle. Tire installation is for loose tires that aren't on rims yet: we mount them, balance them, and set up the wheels from scratch — see tire installation in Calgary for that pricing. How long does a seasonal tire swap take?
A standard car or SUV changeover takes about 30 minutes. Trucks and duallies take a little longer. Book a time slot online and there's no waiting around — drop the vehicle, we swap the wheels, torque everything to spec, and you're back on the road.
Do you store my off-season tires?
No — Prince Tires doesn't offer tire storage, so your off-season set goes home with you. Store them somewhere cool, dry and out of direct sunlight — a garage corner or basement works well. If they're on rims, stack them flat or hang them; loose tires are best kept standing upright.
Can you swap tires I bought somewhere else?
Yes. It doesn't matter where your tires or rims came from — another shop, a dealership, online, or a used set. As long as your seasonal tires are mounted on rims that fit your vehicle, we'll change them over at the same flat rate, with no outside-purchase surcharge.

Changeover or installation? They are different jobs

The price difference comes down to one question: are your seasonal tires already on their own rims?

  • On their own rims — this is a changeover Four mounted wheels come off, four go on, every nut torqued to spec. Nothing is dismounted, so nothing needs rebalancing. Flat $60 for most vehicles, about 30 minutes.
  • Sharing one set of rims — that is an installation Each tire has to be dismounted from the rim and the other one mounted and balanced in its place. More labour, and it works the tire beads twice a year. That is the installation rate.
  • A second set of rims usually pays for itself Steel rims are inexpensive and shrug off road salt. After the first winter, every changeover is the cheaper job instead of the dearer one.
  • Either way the wheels get torqued, not gunned And the same re-torque check at 50 to 100 km applies.
